Rubber specifications and standards

Many drawings name a standard instead of a compound. These pages explain the ones we see most, what they control, and what to send us so we can quote to them.

Standards explained

  • ASTM D2000

How to read an ASTM D2000 line callout: type, class, hardness, tensile strength and suffix tests, and the polymers usually behind each type and class.

  • AS568 O-rings

AS568 O-ring dash numbers explained: cross-section series, inch and metric sizes, tube fitting boss sizes, and how to specify material and hardness.

  • FDA-compliant materials

What FDA-compliant rubber means under 21 CFR 177.2600, which elastomers come in FDA grades, and what to tell us about your food-contact part.

Other specifications we supply to

Parts can be supplied to these specifications, with certificates of compliance on request. Put the specification and its revision on your drawing or in your quote request.

  • MIL-SPEC
  • AMS
  • DMS 1980
  • BMS 1-60
  • MS-35490 grommets
  • Parts made from UL 94 HF-1-rated materials

We also supply compounds that meet FDA 21 CFR 177.2600, and NSF compounds are available; certificates of compliance on request. See FDA-compliant materials.

Spiral wound gaskets

Our spiral wound gaskets are built to ASME B16.20 (formerly API 601), DIN or your spec. They run up to 1,000 °C with high-temperature fillers; the filler and winding set the limit, and the pressure rating depends on the gasket and flange class. Spiral wound gaskets

Quality you can document

  • ISO 9001:2015 certified, from material purchasing to delivery
  • Complete lot traceability from source material to finished part
  • In-house material testing and dimensional inspection
  • Engineering Data Worksheets document quality lot to lot
  • PPAP documentation for OEM programs
  • Customer-specific inspection plans

Materials

For what each elastomer resists and how hot and cold it can run, see rubber materials.

Have a spec on your drawing?
